Brevard County Company Recognized for Contribution to Florida's Economic Diversification and Growth
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. & MELBOURNE, Fla. -- One Senior Place last week received the 2007 Business Diversification Award for its civic leadership and contribution to Florida's economic
Governor Charlie Crist presented the award to One Senior Place owners Don and Beth Kramer at the Governor's Mansion in Tallahassee as part of Florida's Industry Appreciation Week, September 17-21, 2007. The awards program, developed by Enterprise Florida, recognizes companies for diversifying and enriching the state's economy in such areas as job creation, community involvement, and innovation.
One of only 12 companies recognized across the state, the award to Brevard County's One Senior Place represented a shift in the type of businesses singled out for an award. "Typically, service companies are not seen as being the type of business that helps diversify the state's economy," says One Senior Place President & CEO Don Kramer. "Companies in manufacturing, technology, aerospace, and defense have historically been chosen for the impact they have in job creation, capital expenditures and facilities," adds Kramer. "I think that with the mushrooming elderly population, Enterprise Florida and the Governor responded favorably to a "pay your own way" model that helps our seniors and our state live with the realities of decreases in tax-supported and non-profit funding for senior care and services."
One Senior Place - a one-stop resource that provides information, unbiased advice, and on-site providers of senior products and services - has reinvented the delivery of senior services by creating a direct retail-style business model that connects aging consumers with the senior-focused companies designed to serve them. This unique concept empowers consumers to shop for senior products and services the way they would for anything else - making One Senior Place a standout among many senior service providers who often rely on state budget funding to operate and deliver services.
Lynda Weatherman, Economic Development Commission of the Space Coast President & CEO, says the innovative approach of One Senior Place made them a perfect candidate for recognition. "This prestigious honor shows just how cutting edge and ingenious the all-in-one senior services industry has become. Not only does One Senior Place contribute to a better Brevard County, but now the entire state of Florida gets a glimpse into a truly revolutionary model inaugurated right here on Florida's Space Coast. We applaud Mr. Kramer for raising the standards of business locally and setting a lofty bar for future new-to-Brevard companies."
Since its opening, One Senior Place has conducted nearly 1300 consultations helping seniors and their caregivers get access to answers about everything from healthcare and senior living to finances and legal issues. Over 18,000 seniors and family members have visited One Senior Place to visit any of the 24 resident and affiliated businesses or attend one of the 800 educational, informational or social events. With its Senior Resource Library, Living Options Showroom (which showcases the varied senior living facilities in Brevard County) on-site Elder Care Consultants, presentation and conference facilities, plus specialized resources such as the recently established Legacy Harbour Memory Resource Center, One Senior Place offers visitors a comprehensive array of solutions for their elder care needs.
The annual Governor's Business Diversification Awards are presented in five categories - Business Expansion, Newcomer, Export Excellence, Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Each nominee competed with other companies, organizations, universities and colleges in similarly sized markets, including Mid Market (county population up to 75,000); Major Market (county population 75,001 to 750,000); and Mega Market (county population 750,001 and higher).
