Providence, R.I.-Area Town to Sell Some Open Space for $500,000.

Sep. 4--CUMBERLAND, R.I.--Six years after it purchased 25 acres to preserve as open space, the town is selling a portion to a group that plans to build classrooms for special-education students.

About a third of the former Ephpheta Retreat House property, on Manville Road, will be sold to the Northern Rhode Island Collaborative, for a price of $500,000.

Officials say the sale, approved last night by the Town Council, provides the town with an advantageous price and
