Veteran journalist Salinger admitted that he may have been wrong in blaming the US military. Among the reasons that Salinger's report was probably wrong are that the military units were not in the vicinity of the airliner and no witnesses saw the flame of a missile launch, although there were almost no clouds in the sky and the winds were low.
