The war in Iraq has presented significant challenges to the Marine Corps' historic doctrine of short-duration, high-intensity warfighting. With the conflict now well into its third year and unit deployments often exceeding 12 months, the task of sustaining a large force in-country has taken on great importance. However, the Naval Expeditionary Logistics Support Force has stepped up to provide experienced logisticians and cargo handlers to assist Marine air wings on the ground in central and western Iraq to meet this challenge.
