U.S. Military Awards IHS $42 Million for Hazardous Materials Management System.

IHS Management System Provides Environmental Compliance at more than 90 Department of Defense Facilities Worldwide

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- IHS Inc. (NYSE: IHS), a leading global source of critical information and insight, announced today that the U.S. Air Force (USAF) has selected the IHS

Hazardous Materials Management System (HMMS) to manage hazardous substances at more than 90 Department of Defense facilities worldwide. The four-year USAF task order, managed through Hill Air Force Base in Utah, includes a new award to IHS for support at 59 U.S. Army installations worldwide as well as a renewal of continued support to the 32 Department of Defense (DoD) and federal agency sites that currently use IHS HMMS.

The new award to IHS is the result of a U.S. Army decision to adopt a single, service-wide system to comply with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations at all Army installations worldwide. The USAF selected HMMS based on security and web-based feature sets, advanced functionality when compared to other solutions, and proven success in the DoD market.

"This award reflects the growing significance of environmental and sustainability concerns and the U.S. Department of Defense's commitment to address this issue worldwide," said Jeff Tarr, IHS co-president and co-chief operating officer. "IHS is proud to be selected as the new system provider for the Army's global initiative and pleased to renew our existing work with the DoD."

IHS has made recent strategic investments in its environmental information management capabilities, including the October 2007 purchase of the HMMS product line as part of the acquisition of EnvironMax for $22.5 million in cash and 65,000 shares of IHS stock with a one-year lock up. IHS 2008 earnings guidance, previously announced on Oct. 11, 2007, already incorporates this business.

"We believe there are substantial opportunities for growth in the public and private sectors worldwide as militaries, countries and companies all increasingly recognize the need to develop partnerships to solve their environmental challenges and improve operations," Tarr said.

HMMS 4.0 is an enterprise application that tracks the lifecycle of bulk hazardous materials from planning, procurement, issue/use and safe disposal. The application generates all the necessary compliance documents mandated by the EPA and other state and federal regulatory agencies.
