Federal Reserve Bank Leaves Interest Rates Unchanged for Now.

Dec. 10--WASHINGTON--The nation's economy is "expanding briskly" and the job market is "improving modestly" so it doesn't need any more help from lower interest rates, the Federal Reserve concluded yesterday.

The Bank's Open Market Committee left the overnight federal funds interest rate unchanged at 1 percent, the lowest rate in 45 years. But with some subtle changes in their rate announcement, the Fed set the stage for raising rates sometime next year.
