Tag-along would drop tax on qifts from IRAs

The House has approved legislation that would allow people to donate money from their IRAs to charities without paying taxes.

The scaled-back legislation, approved on July 11 by the Ways and Means Committee committee, was attached to President Bush's initiative on faith-based organizations, which the full House passed Thursday by a 233-198 vote.

The House Judiciary Committee earlier approved parts of the initiative to allow religious organizations to receive government money for providing social services
