Jan. 29--The state Senate rejected Wednesday legislation aimed at recovering an estimated $10 million a year in tax payments from expatriate companies.
SB 1067 by Sen. Jackie Speier, D-Hillsborough, was pushed by state Treasurer Phil Angelides, a vocal critic of U.S. companies that set up legal headquarters offshore to escape paying millions in taxes.
"We're going to be back. This fight has just begun," said Angelides, a Democrat. He chastised Republicans for their party-line vote
