Home builders have a representative in the House in Rep Mark W. Neumann, a home builder who sold his business in 1992 to seek a congressional seat. He decided to run for Congress when he saw deficit spending growing at an alarming rate. He sponsored the Social Security Preservation Act which requires surpluses from Social Security contributions to be placed into the Social Security Trust Fund to pay for future costs. To ensure support for the legislation, Neumann is running for the Senate against incumbent Democrat Russ Feingold.
