California gubernatorial candidate Bill Simon (R) continued to beef up his campaign team, adding several GOP consultants to his roster as senior advisors: Ed Rollins, Lyn Nofziger and Ron Rogers. Rollins managed President Reagan's re-election campaign in 1984, Nofziger served as a political adviser to Reagan and Rogers is a partner in the consulting firm Russo Marsh & Rogers.

Chicago political consultant David Axelrod returned to the New York gubernatorial campaign of Comptroller Carl McCall. Axelrod left last year to work for lieutenant governor candidate Dennis Mehial
