TROY, N.Y. -- MapInfo Demographers Uncover Information on Married, Single and Divorced Women in Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin

With presidential candidates doing all they can to win over the undecided women voters across the country, MapInfo Corporation (NASDAQ: MAPS) today

released insightful demographic facts about single and married women living in the key battleground states of Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin. MapInfo analyzed the metropolitan areas of these states to uncover the highest population of married and single women, the areas where mothers live and the kinds of jobs they hold. This information can provide greater insight into one of the presidential campaign's highly sought after demographic.

Where and how people live and work are just some of the insights that MapInfo is able to offer companies and government agencies wanting to better understand the lifestyle preferences--such as the cars they drive, magazines they read and television programs they watch--of their own customers or citizens. Based on MapInfo's geodemographic research, here are some descriptions of women in these key states:

--Swinging Singles--Senator Kerry and President Bush are looking to swing the vote of America's singles, so both have their sights set on Florida's single women demographic. With Miami, Tampa-St.Petersburg-Clearwater, Fort Lauderdale and Orlando dominating the list of metros with the largest population of this key segment, Florida continues to hold strong interest for the candidates. Other swing state metropolitan areas with relatively high percentages of single women include Detroit (which has the highest population of single women in these states with over 930,000), Columbus, OH and Milwaukee.

--Married to It--As the presidential candidates attempt to appeal to the unique political concerns of married women, metropolitan areas from the profiled states of Iowa and Ohio are getting plenty of attention. Des Moines, Iowa, with 106,860 of its residents being married women, is the state's biggest metro area with this key demographic attribute. Other metropolitan areas with a high population of married women include Cedar Rapids, Iowa City and Dubuque. The Cleveland-Lorain-Elyria metropolitan area, with an estimated 488,067 married residents, leads the pack of married women in Ohio, followed by Cincinnati, Columbus and Dayton-Springfield.

--Working, with Children--For working mothers in these battleground states, kids can change everything, even how they vote. Wisconsin has the most metropolitan areas with the highest percentage of working mothers than any other profiled state. Leading the list is Wausau, with more than 82 percent of mothers that hold down employment, followed by Madison with just over 81 percent and Eau Claire and Sheboygan with just over 80 percent.

--Red, White and Blue Collars--Jobs can also influence women's decision at the polls. When it comes to white-collar jobs, such as office and professional positions, Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, Florida with more than 719,641 working in white-collar industries leads the pack followed by Cleveland-Lorain-Elyria, Ohio with 657,777. For blue-collar jobs, such as food service, Minneapolis-St. Paul MN-WI is the area with the most residents in these industries with 557,428; followed by Cleveland-Lorain-Elyria, Ohio with 424,991.

"With the nation's attention turned to both the women's vote and the fight over the battleground states this election season, MapInfo uncovered interesting statistics on some key female demographic attributes that can drive campaign effort and messaging," said Chris Michels, product manager, geodemographics, for MapInfo. "The utility of demographics reaches well beyond the business and marketing world. MapInfo can provide this kind of detailed demographic information to political parties and public organizations to help them better understand and reach their target audiences."
