U.S. Navy deploys fleet of heavy-duty pressure washers

The Naval Region Mid-Atlantic, located in Norfolk, VA, has the largest pollution prevention program in the Navy, which requires that environmentally safe procedures be used to clean parts and equipment.

To accommodate large parts, Naval Region Mid-Atlantic has deployed an aqueous, closed-loop,

high-pressure cleaning system from Pressure Island, Menlo Park, CA, to several naval locations. Each unit consists of an enclosure that is open at the top and along one side and has panels on the back and other side.

The setup includes a pressure hose with spray nozzle and pistol grip and a stainless steel catch pan for collecting wastewater after spraying, filtering, and recycling. Two 10-kw. heaters warm effluent up to 160[degrees]. Units also feature hour meters and ozone injectors to prevent bacteria buildup and eliminate odors.

Users may place odd-sized or large parts anywhere on the containment pad. In addition, operators can pinpoint the cleaning nozzle to clean areas that require special attention.
