EU-turn on cheaper mobile calls

The European Commission made a dramatic U-turn on their pledge to force mobile phone operators to reduce the costs of using phones abroad, announcing weaker measures.

A new law will cap the profits mobile firms can make on calls made in EU countries, but the cap will only apply to the wholesale

cost between operators not direct to the consumer.

Ceri Stanaway, Which?, said: 'The fact that consumers have to pay to receive calls is one of the most unfair things about using mobile phones abroad because it is something people can't control.'
