Price to play?

CA has given a warm welcome to the record fines levied by the OFT on Argos and Littlewoods for their roles in the recent price-fixing of Hasbro toys and games. The two retailers' collusion with Hasbro and consequent breach of the 1998 Competition Act resulted in a combined fine of L22.65 million.

The magnitude of the fine sends out a clear warning that restricting competition and ripping off consumers in this way is unacceptable. The OFT's efforts to curb such practices are to be applauded.
