Software streamlines city's recreation management

HEADNOTE

CASE HISTORY

To please the public, serving the recreation needs of the largest city in the state demands top customer service. Just ask the recreation staff at Suffolk (VA) Parks and Recreation department. As the largest city in the Commonwealth of Virginia, Suffolk boasts a population of more than 67,000 residents and covers an area of over 430 square miles. The city's park and recreation resources are equally expansive, including 28 city parks and athletic fields, as well as 12 recreation facilities.

"The distance our city covers and its growing community keep us challenged," says Robin Ziegler, support services superintendent of Suffolk Parks and Recreation. "With so many opportunities to provide excellent services, we knew we needed to stay progressive with technology to deliver top services to such a widespread area."

To keep pace with Suffolk's growing needs, Ziegler's department recently began using RecWare Safari Standard software, developed by The Active Network, Inc. (La Jolla, CA).
