News and views from Which?

Which? has warned that the private sector will not end all health woes, in response to the health secretary's announcement that the use of the private sector for NHS operations

is to double in the next five years.

Frances Blunden, principal policy adviser for Which?, said: 'Bringing in the private sector to carry out NHS operations can be a useful way of ensuring patients are treated quickly and free up capacity in the NHS. But the way Government policy is currently constructed poses real risks that increased use of the private sector will undermine local health services in the longer term, leaving patients with less, not more choice.'
