Business Definition for: line authority
line authority
power to give orders to subordinates. It contrasts with staff authority , which is the authority to advise but not command others. Line managers are responsible for attaining the organization's goals as efficiently as possible. Production and sales managers typically exercise line authority.
line authority
authority exercised over line personnel in an organization.
