Business Definition for: functional title
functional title

job title descriptive of the occupation or professional responsibilities of an individual, such as accounting manager, farmer, vice president sales, or advertising executive. Functional titles are included in each record on a business list so that promotions can be properly addressed and can be targeted to the professional interests of groups of individuals.

list rental selections are frequently made by functional title. The classification of titles into groups is determined by the list owner as best meets her marketing objectives. For example, if the list is used for promoting farm goods, then "accounting manager" might be grouped under a miscellaneous category and "farmer" classified according to cattle, grain, dairy, and so forth. Conversely, if financial services are being promoted, then all types of farmers would fall under a miscellaneous category and "accounting manager" would be a unique category.
