Business Definition for: Carrier Route Information System (CRIS)
Carrier Route Information System (CRIS)

file maintained by the U.S. Postal Service that lists all of the approximately 570,000 carrier routes by street name or ranges of street numbers. It is used by large-volume mailers to append the carrier route to the name and address records on their mailing lists so that mailings can be presorted accordingly, thereby earning a postage discount.
