article xii company

investment company chartered under New York state law to finance international banking transactions. An Article XII company can hold credit balances and offer other banking services but cannot accept deposits. These companies, usually owned by foreign banks, are exempt from reserve requirements of the Federal Reserve System, but can be members of privately operated funds transfer systems, such as the Clearing House Interbank Payments System in New York City.
