The HoneyBaked Ham Co. and Café

Specialty ham and turkey store plus café serving sandwiches and salads
This family-owned franchisor launched 50 years ago with one location in Detroit. Since then, that family recipe for honey-glazed ham has grown into a franchise chain that offers four ways for franchisees to generate revenue: retail, catering, gifts and the dine-in Honeybaked Ham Café. A fast-casual restaurant, the Café features no messy grills or fryers and limited staffing requirements, making it simpler to operate than typical restaurants. It also offers family-friendly hours: Locations are typically open from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and closed on Sundays. In 1998, the company began franchising when it bought Hickory Ham, a Southeastern-based franchise; in 2002, it bought its largest competitor, Heavenly Ham.
Why This Company Makes Our AllStar List
In its first year on our AllStar list, The Honeybaked Ham Co. and Cafe ranked fairly well in multiple areas: ranking #78 in growth, #128 in financial strength, and #161 in longevity.

The company has been in business since 1957 and has a well-known name. Franchisees also enjoy the fact that the business has limited operating hours. One-hundred percent of its franchisees are owner-operators; 10 percent own more than one unit.

In 2009 The Honeybaked Ham Co. and Cafe announced it will open co-branded units with Bruster’s Ice Cream. The strategy will help both of the seasonal businesses capture more dollars year-round. The Honeybaked Ham Co. and Cafe is listed on the SBA’s Franchise Registry.
