Subway
You don't have to go underground to catch this Subway. Doctor's Associates operates the Subway chain of sandwich shops, the world’s largest restaurant chain, boasting more than 30,000 locations in 90 countries. All Subway restaurants are franchised and offer such fare as hot and cold sub sandwiches, flatbread sandwiches, and salads. Subways are located in freestanding buildings, as well as in airports, convenience stores, sports facilities, and other locations. Doctor's Associates is owned by co-founders Fred DeLuca and Peter Buck, who opened the first Subway in 1965.
Subway, now the world's largest restaurant chain, continues to lead our AllStar list as the #1 franchise for the fourth year in a row, thanks to its top brand awareness rank (#1) and a very strong growth rank (#14).
During 2011, Subway opened additional locations of its upscale café concept, Subway Café, and launched its 8,000th nontraditional location inside a Chrysler and Jeep auto assembly plant.
The company announced two new financing programs that will reduce or eliminate the franchise fee for military veterans and nonprofit organizations that want to open a Subway restaurant for community outreach or educational purposes. Subway franchisees are also eligible for SBA loans through approved lenders; equipment leasing programs and franchise fee financing are available for minority franchisees.
Looking ahead to 2012, Subway plans to further its global presence by opening 2,500 new restaurants in Russia alone by 2020.
