Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwich Shops
Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwich Shops was founded in 1983 by then-19-year-old Jimmy John Liautaud. Starting with four different sandwiches and a tiny location, the quick-serve sandwich shop quickly found a fan base in hungry college students, who loved Liautaud’s irreverent attitude. The restaurants’ menu focuses on affordably priced sandwiches and sides made from fresh meats, cheese and vegetables, with bread baked in-house every day. In 1993, Jimmy John’s began franchising, and quickly grew -- but still boasts the same quirky image, offering sandwiches with names like Pepe and Big John. Today, Jimmy John’s has locations throughout the United States. Liautaud is still chairman of the company.
"It's honest, it's damn good, it's damn fast, at a decent price!" is how Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwich Shops describes itself on its website. The company prides itself on having a unique corporate culture and is a top 5 AllStar for the third year running, thanks to rapid growth (#16), good financial strength (#20), and high Web visibility (#7).
In 2011, Zagat ranked Jimmy John's -- which is still run by its entrepreneurial founder, Jimmy John Liautaud -- #4 in service among large fast-food chains. And according to Technomic, Jimmy John's increased its revenue 22 percent to an estimated $735 million at the end of 2010. The sandwich company also counts football great Drew Brees among its franchisees.
Jimmy John's does not offer direct financing but is listed on the SBA's Franchise Registry.
