Huntington Learning Centers provides tutoring services to students from kindergarten through 12th grade (ages 5 to 17) to help them get better grades, raise their test scores, and improve their study skills. Each enrolled student is first given a series of diagnostic tests to discover his or her abilities, isolate problem areas, and develop an individualized instruction program based on the test results. The company franchises locations across the US; it has more than 400 learning centers in almost every state. Huntington Learning was founded in 1977 by Dr. Raymond and Eileen Huntington.

Parents are still willing to pay for services that help their children succeed, making children’s education a recession-resistant industry. And with cash-strapped school districts cutting budgets, services such as the ones Huntington Learning offers will likely be in great demand in the coming years.

Huntington offers two franchise models: a retail option (Huntington Center Services), and a home-based option (Huntington School Services) where franchisees tutor students at underperforming schools. (Parents don’t pay for the latter; funding is provided by the federal government under the No Child Left Behind Act.)
