Bojangles' Famous Chicken 'n Biscuits

Quick-service chicken restaurant
This Bojangles won't dance in worn out shoes, but it will cook some chicken for you. Bojangles' Holdings operates and franchises more than 400 quick-service eateries that specialize in Cajun-style chicken and biscuits. The restaurants also offer chicken sandwiches and Buffalo-style chicken wings, along with a breakfast menu. Located mostly in Southeastern states, the chain includes over 150 company-owned locations; the rest are operated by franchisees. Founded in 1977 by former KFC president Richard Thomas and partner Jack Fulk, Bojangles' is owned by an investor group led by Falfurrias Capital Partners.
Why This Company Makes Our AllStar List
Like many other food-service franchises, Bojangles has been affected by the financing crunch. While unit growth has continued, it slowed slightly compared to last year, and the company’s growth ranking dropped from #90 to #112.

Bojangles’ sales increased 7 percent in the first half of 2009, and in August 2009, the company secured $70 million in refinancing to allow it to reduce debt. The company’s financial strength ranking is still fairly high, at #89.

Offering menus for multiple dayparts is proving key for restaurants during this tough economic times, and Bojangles has an edge because breakfast already accounts for a substantial part of its business. In 2009, Nation’s Restaurant News ranked Bojangles #24 on its list of the top 100 chains in terms of unit growth.
