Lighten Up Marketing #5: Chipotle's Boo-Ritos

Tuesday, July 29 2008

Chipotle boo-ritoA couple of years back, I published a post (Chipotle Scares Up Business with Free Boo-Ritos) about a lively use of Lighten Up! Marketing by those baristas of burritos at the Chipotle in the Chicago Loop.

Chipotle in Chicago (and I assume elsewhere) gave away free burritos (boo-ritos, to be precise) to anyone who reached the register wrapped in Chipotle’s katie.jpgouterware of choice: aluminum foil.

This set off a run on cheap aluminum foil at the nearby Walgreen's, and some very creative costumes by the burrito hungry art students from nearby Columbia College (including the talented Relentless Marketer Katie Skuba).

When you lighten up and have some fun with your customers, everyone wins.

Read the story over at Franchisor Marketing, and consider how you can scare up some business for YOUR company by lightening things up with some Lighten Up! Marketing.

What a great idea! I had not heard of the boo-rito campaign, but what a great way to stir up some business and some PR!!
There is nothing better than laughter to stir up some free business. It just makes everyone feel good!!
So, tell us Sean, did you make it to the counter in your foil outfit??

No, Kim. I actually don't have a Chipotle nearby. I did, however, make a homemade boo-rito and dressed in my foil costume while I ate it and did the blog post.
Tip: spring for the heavier duty, wide roll foil from a major name brand. It costs more, but holds the crease better throughout the day!
Thanks for commenting, Kim.
