Lighten Up Marketing #2: One For The Road

Tuesday, July 29 2008

lighten up marketingIt was a tough day at the end of a tough week, and it probably showed.
After a day of presentations and meetings, our group stopped off at a downtown pub for a quick bite, a beer and to decompress.
The sandwiches vanquished and beers quaffed to within an inch of their lives, the server returned to the table and we expected the automated sequence:
"Can I get you anything else?"
Someone would look around (Anyone?) and those who would love another beer would keep it to themselves (Me? No. I'm good.)
And that would be that.
"No, thanks. Just a check."
Only instead of the automated prompt, this server smiled and said:
"Do you all DESERVE another beer?"
That kind of threw the group, who then agreed:
"Damn right we deserve another beer!"

The pub got additional revenue of another round.
The server got a fatter tip for making us laugh.
The group got a laugh and a bit more decompression.
And I got a Relentless Marketing anecdote and upselling tip.

When you share a laugh with your customers, everyone wins.
