La Jolla restaurant George's at the Cove recently found out that it will be inducted into the Fine Dining Hall of Fame, coordinated by Nation's Restaurant News.

The awards ceremony is planned for May 20 at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Chicago.

A representative for George's at the Cove said it's the first time a San Diego restaurant has been inducted.

Restaurant News tracks restaurants all over the country each year. Representatives reportedly make on-site visits, sampling the cuisine and service.

Past inductees are invited to make nominations as well.

From there, a review process follows, from which a final list of nominees are chosen.

Inductees are chosen by the magazine's editorial and publishing staff.

Not surprisingly, restaurant co-owner George Hauer plans to be present to receive the honor.

He owns the restaurant with partners Mark Oliver and Trey Foshee, who is also George's executive chef.

"This is a landmark occasion, not only for George's at the Cove, but for San Diego's growth toward national recognition as a culinary tour de force," he said.

This year's other winners are Broussard's of New Orleans; Cafe 36 of La Grange, Ill.; Cafe Pacific of Highland Park, Texas; and The Cellar of Fullerton, Calif.
