A New Way to Raise Menu Prices

Culinary shortcuts. We've all made them. Who hasn't cranked up the convection oven to 450 degrees to finish off the one slice of meatloaf that was served just before the entire loaf was done? Everyone has shortcut stories, but few are made public - by the managers.

When it comes to menu shortcuts, there are a variety of steps taken to change specials and alter prices. The white sticker over the old price on a laminated menu is a popular technique in mid-America diners. The cross-out line with a new price hovering just above is also seen regularly. And of course, there is the completely hand written menu enabling prices to fluctuate in accordance with food costs and checkbook balances.

However, the accompanying picture is one of the most ingenious, albeit amusing menu price change shortcuts I've witnessed. Standing outside the restaurant observing the reaction of the people passing by shaking their heads, laughing, was interesting to watch. One stroller thought he might be getting Punk'd.

In reality, the only people getting Punk'd are the the menu printing company.
