The Push To Bring Restaurants into the Green World

Restaurants are unfortunately notorious for being eco-Unfriendly.  It’s been estimated that they use five times more energy then other retail operations, and each restaurant throws out 100,000 pounds of garbage annually.  When it’s all put together, every one of the 945,000 restaurants in the country pumps 490 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, every single year.     

 

Ted Turner, through his Turner Foundation, and the National Restaurant Association, are teaming up to push the restaurant industry to start catching up with the rest of the world, when it comes to green initiatives.  NRA President Dawn Sweeney says : “We can do more, and we will.” They’ve developed a new website, conserve.restaurant.org, that provides the what, where, when, how and why of restaurant sustainability.
