Hello Mr Chip and PIN

Mastercard predicts that debit card spending will rise 37 per cent as a result of Chip and PIN. A Mastercard survey suggested that 40 per cent of people will use their debit card more often, and around 30 per cent will carry less cash, once Chip and PIN become the norm for debit card transactions.

Over half said they thought Chip and PIN was safer than the current system, and around the same proportion thought Chip and PIN would save time. It is thought that 3 million people who currently do not use plastic to make purchases will do so once the system is introduced.
