Commercial lender to lead Bank One's Wisconsin effort

James Popp has been promoted to president of the Wisconsin market for Bank One. As part of his responsibilities
Popp succeeds Paul Greig, Wisconsin market president since 1999 who resigned in December to join Charter One Bank in Illinois.
Popp, 41, began his banking career with American National Bank in Chicago after a brief career in the National Football League. He managed commercial banking groups in Elgin and Chicago before leaving the bank to join a family business. He joined Bank One's commercial banking group in Milwaukee in 2001 and was instrumental in opening the bank's Minneapolis commercial banking office in 2004.
Bank One merged with JP Morgan Chase & Co., in 2004; it operates 74 offices in Wisconsin.
"Jim is an outstanding relationship builder with keen instincts," said Todd Maclin, head of commercial banking for Bank One and Chase. "He knows the Wisconsin market from his years as a manager there and has earned the much deserved respect of his peers and customers."
Popp has a bachelor's degree in economics from Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tenn., and a master's degree in finance from DePaul University in Chicago. A tight end, Popp went to the San Francisco 49ers in the eighth round of the 1986 NFL draft.
* Paul Greig was named president and CEO of Charter One Bank in Illinois. Greig will oversee all aspects of Charter One Bank's retail, commercial and business banking operations in the state. Greig most recently was Wisconsin market president for Bank One. He has a bachelor's degree in economics from Illinois' Wheaton College and an MBA from DePaul University, Chicago.
The bank also named Sandra Pierce president and CEO in Michigan, and Norman Hatch as president and CEO in Indiana. Charter One Bank is a $49 billion subsidiary of Citizens Financial Group, Providence, R.I.
* Lynn Nagorske has been named to succeed William Cooper as chief executive officer of TCF Financial Corp., Minneapolis, effective January 1, 2006. Nagorske, who joined TCF in 1986, currently is president and chief operating officer; he was elected to the board in 1995. Nagorske has a bachelor's degree in accounting from Minnesota State University-Mankato and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Cooper will continue as chairman of the board through 2008.
Also announced by TCF is the promotion of James Broucek to senior vice president and treasurer. Broucek has been with the bank since 1995 and most recently was senior vice president and chief investment officer. He has a bachelor's degree in business administration from Hope College, Holland, Mich.

* Jeffrey Young has been elected chairman of the board for Iowa Trust and Savings Bank, Centerville. Young also is the bank's president and CEO, a position he's held since 1991. In addition to his bachelor's degree in financial economics from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Young has 25 years of banking experience.
* James Goetz, chairman and CEO of Security First Bank of North Dakota in Center, N.D., was elected to his third term as chairman of ICBA Reinsurance. Goetz brings almost 40 years of banking experience to the position. Goetz has also served on the ICBA Bank Services Committee, the ICBA Policy Development and the ICBA Long Term Planning Committees during the last 15 years as an ICBA member. In addition, Goetz serves as a board member of the ICBA Services Network. In 1980, Goetz cofounded Security Bank of Oliver County and served as its president and CEO until the bank merged with Security First Bank of North Dakota in April 2000.
* Gof Thomson, chairman of the Bank of New Glarus, Wis., was named treasurer of the ICBA Reinsurance board. He also is a member of the Bank Services Committee and chaired ICBA's Regulatory Review Committee for six years. Thomson serves on the Legislative Committee for the Community Bankers of Wisconsin. In 1999, he was named CBWs Wisconsin Banker of the Year.
Other ICBA Reinsurance directors include James Caspary, president of First National Bank of Clifton, Ill; Robert Fricke, president of Farmers & Merchants National Bank, Ashland, Neb.; and A. Pierce Stone, chairman, president and CEO of Virginia Community Bank in Louisa, Va.
* Beth Knickerbocker has been promoted to senior vice president, chief risk officer at M&I Marshall & Ilsley Corp., Milwaukee. Knickerbocker will report to chairman and CEO Dennis Kuester. Knickerbocker joined M&I as vice president, senior compliance counsel in May of 2004. Previously, she was an attorney with a Washington, D.C. firm. Prior to 2000, Knickerbocker was senior attorney with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. She has a bachelor's degree in politics and international relations from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa, and a juris doctorate from the University of Iowa College of Law in Iowa City.
* Midwest Independent Bank, Jefferson City, Mo., promoted Sheila Noll to first vice president and Matt Robertson to assistant vice president.
Noll joined MIB in 1995 and was most recently vice president and senior operations officer. She was selected for the President's Achievement Award in 2002, given annually to a bank officer who makes a significant contribution to the bank and their career. Noll has a bachelor's degree from Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg, Mo.
Robertson joined MIB in 2001 as a customer service representative for the bank's credit card department. In 2002, he became a loan analyst. Robertson has a bachelor's degree from Westminster College in Fulton, Mo.; he also graduated from the Missouri Bankers Association School of Lending.
Midwest Independent Bank also hired Kevin Day as vice president in the loan department. Day most recently worked at Independent Bankers' Bank in Springfield, Ill., as vice president of lending. Day has a bachelor's degree in finance from Eastern Illinois University, Charleston. He also is a graduate of the American Banker's Association Commercial Lender's School.

Dan Lewis joined MBB Banc Services, L.L.C., a subsidiary of Midwest Bankers' Bancorporation, as a bank auditor. Lewis worked most recently at MIB and Nebraska Bankers' Bank, as the operations manager. Lewis has a bachelor's degree in economics from Lincoln University, Jefferson City, Mo.
* Doyle V. Ruble, Jr., executive vice president of Fort Madison Bank & Trust, Fort Madison, Iowa, announced he plans to retire in March after 39 years in the industry. Ruble joined the bank six years ago. He will continue with the bank's board of directors.
* Kristi Sexton has joined Merchants Bank, Cottage Grove, Minn., as office sales manager. Sexton has more than eight years of banking experience and worked most recently at Wells Fargo in its St. Paul, Minn., office. Sexton has a bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
* Tammie Unverzagt has been named cashier at First Security Bank, Byron, Minn. Unverzagt most recently was assistant cashier and teller; she has been with the bank for 17 years.
* Jeanne Severson has joined Bell Mortgage, Minneapolis, as a senior loan officer. Severson has more than 20 years of mortgage lending experience.
The company also announces Dan Dikken has been promoted to managing loan officer. Dikkens has been with Bell Mortgage for three years.
