May 1: Alliance Bancshares, Inc., Cape Girardeau, Mo., approved to become a bank holding company and to acquire Alliance Bank.

Independent Bank Corp, Ionia, Mich., approved to acquire Midwest Guaranty Bancorp, Inc., Troy, and Midwest Guaranty Bank.

Harris Trust and Savings Bank, Chicago approved to establish a branch in Highland Park, Ill.

MCB Bankshares, Inc., Middleton, Wis., filed to become a bank holding company by acquiring Middleton Community Bank.

Platte Valley Financial Services Companies, Inc., Scottsbluff, Neb., filed to acquire North Park Bancshares, and thereby acquire North Park State Bank, both of Walden, Colo.

April 24: Fifth Third Bank, Grand Rapids, Mich., approved to establish branches in Holt and Chicago.

American Community Bancorp, Inc., Evansville, Ind., approved to become a bank holding company and to acquire Bank of Evansville, N.A.

First Bank of Newton approved to open branch in Hesston.

Hillcrest Bank, Overland Park, approved to open branches in Wichita and Lenexa.

Minnesota

Community Bank Minnesota Valley, Jordan, filed to relocate charter to Wayzata and establish a branch in Jordan.

Citizens Bank Minnesota, New Ulm, opened a branch in Lakeville.

Pioneer Bank, Mapleton received approval to open a branch in Mankato.

Pinehurst Bank, a de novo bank, opened April 2 in St. Paul.
