CBAI hosts Latino marketing seminar

Hispanics are now the largest minority group in the country and their numbers are expected to triple in less than 50 years. "The statistics are quite impressive," said Sandra McAvoy, senior vice president of the Community Bankers Association of Illinois. McAvoy recently organized a day-long seminar

for CBAI where its members could hear first-hand the issues banks face when they decide to market to this growing demographic.

Approximately 55 bankers from 34 Illinois banks attended this first-of-its-kind seminar, which featured an overview of the issues including: alter native forms of identification, remittance products, complying with USA Patriot Act, home ownership opportunities, and how community banks can reach the un-banked. McAvoy said most, but not all, of the banks represented at the seminar where from the Chicago area. "Some of them are already involved in this marketing but came looking for updates ... new information," McAvoy said. "Others were just exploring the possibilities."
