NORTH AMERICAN regions continue to dominate globally in terms of knowledge competitiveness, according to this year's World Knowldedge Competitiveness Index. Overall North America, led by San Francisco (including the Silicon Valley), scored nearly twice as high as Europe, which only slightly outrivals Asia-Pacific - including Tokyo, with the highest-ranked region outside North America and Europe.
The report's principle author, Dr. Robert Huggins, contends that unless Europe recalibrates its competitive strategy, it risks falling in the league table of knowledge-based economies.
