The feasibility of using geological isolated pockets of water deep inside the earth as disposal sites for nuclear waste is being studied in Europe, with the aid of a refined method of dating groundwater developed at the Weizmann institute of Science. The technique, introduced by Professor Emanuel Mazor of the Institute's Department of Environmental Sciences and Energy Research, enables experts to determine with greater certainty whether a given aquifer, or groundwater repository, is ancient or relatively recent.
