More then 3,000 U.K. business travelers talked to Barclaycard Business and quite honestly, I’m a little stunned. Only 1% were personally concerned about the environment, and only 1% had made a conscious effort to travel less for business. There was no environmental travel policy in 75% of the companies, and 81% of the companies don’t account for their travel emissions.
Women were more likely to make green travel choices, while public sector employees were more likely to have a green travel policy to follow. Interestingly, medium sized businesses were 6% more likely to have an environmental policy then their larger counterparts.
Denise Leleux, director of commercial cards for Barclaycard Business, said: "There is very little evidence of any significant shift in behaviour of business travelers in 2007 – despite the volumes of media coverage given to this area and the corresponding level of comment by business and the business community on a broad range of environmental initiatives.”
