Citi Offers an "EcoSweepstakes"

Tuesday, May 6 2008

It's popular for companies to offer "green" incentives. And in some cases, as in green mortgages, these incentives can save you money up front. So, really, it was only a matter of time before credit cards moved beyond merely touting their green credentials to actually offering green incentives.

Right now, Citi is offering an "EcoSweepstakes. If you wanted to buy a hybrid car or re-do your kitchen with energy saving appliances, you just might get your chance to do it for free. Citi is offering its customers a sweepstakes entry each time they do one of the following:

  1. Enroll in an account online.
  2. Enroll in online bill pay.
  3. Make a bill payment online.
  4. Make an online balance transfer.
  5. Enroll in paperless statements.

Now, of course, for those who are already customers of Citi, you don't end up getting a new credit card, and you can benefit without doing too much different. Those who enroll in an account to enter, though, should ask themselves if it's worth having another credit card.

In any case, if you are thinking of going green, this might be one way to save a little money while you do it.
