Mar. 24--The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) held a public permit hearing on March 22 at the Marissa High School Gymnasium concerning the Prairie State Energy Campus, a 1,500-MW mine-mouth generating plant that is being planned for Washington County.

The joint power plant and mine are to be built between Coulterville and Lively Grove. Peabody Coal Co. hopes to begin the project next year.

The hearing did draw opposition to the project.
