Environmentalists Not Happy With Trump's Scottish Golf Course
Development Endangers Protected Sand Dunes
Donald Trump has angered environmentalists in Scotland with his proposed $1 billion golf course at Menie Estate. The development would encroach upon a coastal dune system that has been labeled a Site of Significant Scientific Interest (SSSI). Trump’s own environmental advisor says that the golf course would be a “very significant threat” to the dunes. The Trump organization disagrees, and feels that grinding down 10% of the dunes is necessary to build what they describe as, a “world class golf course”. The Sunday Herald quotes project manager George Sorial as saying, “every development involves some environmental sacrifice”.
A public inquiry into the development is being held this week in Aberdeen.
