She's 'No Ordinary Girl': Indie Singer/Songwriter EVAN PAGE Scores Over 21,000...

LOS ANGELES -- Back in the good old days, like circa 2000, a driven, up and coming indie singer/songwriter like Evan Page could impress fans and industry tastemakers alike with a resume that includes multiple gigs in Seattle, Hong Kong, Ireland, Korea, London, Martinique and her native Vancouver.

But here in 2006, that's just ancient history and anecdotal fodder compared to scoring in a realm that has real culturally groundbreaking potential -- MySpace.com.

Since she put it up last fall, Page's MySpace page (no pun intended) has been, in her words, "beyond ridiculous," scoring over 21,000 hits (and counting) by fans who can't get enough of the song and video for "Next Ex," the tough minded, edgy yet humorous first single from her fully DIY debut project No Ordinary Girl. The overwhelming response has led to quick sales of over 6,000 units of the album.

The song's popularity is due to its tremendous, built-in appeal to girls of all ages -- its hook asks, "Do you want to be my next ex-boyfriend?" -- as well as its crossover attraction to guys who relate to the tomboy elements of Page's personality. The song's elaborately produced video, which was directed by Dave Swuz of Springfield Films (Stealing God) -- incorporates scenes of the singer indulging in her love of hockey, which she has played for over 10 years.

The next potential single from No Ordinary Girl is "Because Of You," a self-described "anti-love song" which she wrote after a falling out with a creative partner she was also emotionally involved with. "I write stuff that is very painful and serious, but I always twist it around to be humorous as well. There's a lot of depression in the world, so I don't want to come across as a whiny bitch. The songs are all autobiographical, all true, and reflect real life experience, but they're not all about 'poor me.' In fact, I always come out on top. More the dumper than the dumpee. Guys and girls can definitely relate to me."
