Reliant shutting down plant.(Strictly Business)

CHOCTAW COUNTY -- Reliant Energy has mothballed its 822-megawatt electric generating station in this North Mississippi county. The Houston, Texas based company said the plant is being idled as a result of continued weak wholesale market conditions in the Southeast.

Reliant Energy Choctaw County, commissioned in July 2003, is a natural gas-fired, combined-cycle generating unit. Before deciding to mothball the facility, Reliant offered the output of the plant to the market through a request-for-proposal process; however, responses were insufficient to cover the cash cost
