There is considerable controversy, both in the U.K. and in Brussels, about the future position of British Coal (BC), the dominant hard coal producer within the EC. There has been much debate in recent months about the future size of Britain's coal industry, ranging from the minimum recommendation of the three Rothschild reports of just 10 mines, to John T.
