FPL Restores Power to 820,100 of the 3.2 Million FPL Customers Left without Electric Service by...

MIAMI -- Progress has been made in the mammoth restoration effort by Florida Power & Light Company crews. In total, 820,100 customers - more than 25 percent of the approximately 3.2 million customers left without power from Hurricane Wilma - now have their electric service restored.

Other restoration highlights include:

--Restored service to customers north of Brevard County.

--Power restored tonight to virtually all customers in Brevard County on the east coast and in the west coast counties of Manatee, Sarasota, Charlotte and DeSoto.

--Nearly 30 percent of the critical infrastructure has been restored, including all major airports and Port Everglades.

--The majority of the hospitals in the 22,000 square-mile area affected by the storm have been restored.

--Reduced the number of substations without service from 241 to 85. The company said it expects to have most if not all substations back in service 24 to 48 hours from now.

To ensure that information on our progress is available, we are providing updated information daily. The majority of customers in all other FPL areas will have power restored within two weeks-by November 8. Some 95 percent of customers in these areas should have power back within three weeks - November 15.

The restoration workforce is growing daily as more crews from out of state become available to help. Now staging sites are up and running. These sites help get materials, equipment and thousands of people to work quickly and effectively, and will help shorten the restoration. Resources in the field have increased to more than 8,200 and a total of 2,600 more have been committed.

"This is truly an extraordinary event for both our customers and our employees," says Geisha Williams, vice president of distribution and the executive in charge of the restoration effort. "We've never faced the kind of damage we're facing today, and we understand the hardships it is causing. We are urging customers to be patient as we go through the steps necessary to safely restore power to everyone."
