The Hotel Carlton in San Francisco - Solar Powered and Carbon Neutral
The Hotel Carlton - Solar Panels, Green Policies, and Carbon Credits
The Hotel Carlton has a couple of reasons to celebrate. Not only has it received San Francisco’s Green Business Certification, but it is also the first hotel in the city to be solar powered.
Sunlight Electric installed 105 solar panels on the hotel's roof, which will reduce Hotel Carlton’s electricity usage by 12%, thereby reducing their carbon footprint by 33,000 lbs. per year. They’ve implemented changes throughout the hotel as well. They use green cleaning products, low-flow showerheads, organic food in the restaurant, and they replaced the soda machine with complimentary, filtered water, to reduce the use of plastic bottles. Carbon credits have been purchased to offset any power usage, making their operations completely carbon-neutral.
The Switch to Solar Power happens during a ceremony on Earth Day, after which, guests will be able to monitor the system’s energy generation via a monitor in the lobby.
