VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Torrent Energy Corporation ("Torrent" or the "Company") (OTCBB:TREN) is pleased to announce that its wholly owned operating subsidiary, Methane Energy Corp. ("Methane") has commenced a coring program
on its oil and gas leases in Coos County, Oregon.The first core hole, Westport Core Hole #1 (Section 16, Township 26S, Range13W, Coos County, Oregon), is being drilled to a depth of approximately 2,700 feet, targeting ten coal seams at various intervals. A truck mounted core drilling rig is being used to drill, core and log each hole. The rig operates on a 24 hour basis utilizing two drilling crews on 12 hour shifts. Samples are being collected and stored in sealed canisters and are being analyzed continuously on site for gas content.
The primary objectives of this program are as follows:
1) to determine the thickness of the coals;
2) to verify the regional extent and predictability of the coals;
3) to develop baseline data for the coal seams, including gas content, coal rank and coal isotherms; and
4) to assist in locating potential pilot test well programs.
Methane's well site engineer is Gary Johnson who worked on his first coalbed methane project in 1986. His many years of managing the drilling of coalbed methane projects in the San Juan, Uinta, Piceance, Powder River and Green River Basins for companies such as Oxy, J.M. Huber, Encana, Prima, Phillips, and others should provide the necessary experience and expertise to complete Methane's coring project successfully. Mr. Johnson has a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering.
