Govt puts off decision on petro price hike.

Apr. 9--NEW DELHI -- Autofuel consumers can breathe easy for the time being. The government on Friday put off a decision on hiking the prices of petrol and diesel products. Oil companies have been pushing for a revision in fuel prices given the global spurt in crude oil prices.

However, petroleum minister Mani Shankar Aiyar has tried to delay the decision in the hope of softening oil prices. Global prices of autofuels have moved up by a sharp $50 a tonne between March and April. Finance minister P Chidambaram, who is currently in Mumbai has said that he will need to di
