South Africa -- Fuel retailers have complained that they are suffering from the effect of falling demand, and oil companies are making matters worse by continuing to open service stations in an already saturated market.
The Retail Motor Industry organization, which represents service stations and other retailers in the automotive industry, said in May that petrol retailers were seeing smaller profits and faced harsh financial pressures because they were selling less fuel. Although a small cut in petrol prices was expected, it was unlikely to remedy the situation.
