Product teardowns, the disassembly and analysis of products, have been fairly standard for electronics industry OEMs and chipmakers for years. Recently, the practice has flourished on the Internet with both professional engineers and consumers taking apart and showcasing the inner workings of the range of electronics products, including iPods, iPhones, video game consoles and MP3 players.
Portelligent delivers product teardown information and analysis in wireless, personal, and consumer electronics products. The company was spun off from Microelectronics and Computer Technology Corp. in 2000 and currently serves clients in North America, Europe and Asia.
CMP Electronics Group President Paul Miller said the purchase "advances our growth strategy to provide our customers with 'more than media.' We continue to build strong momentum for the electronics market with our July acquisition of Semiconductor Insights, the September launch announcement of an Intellectual Property Symposium," followed by the purchase of Portelligent.
