Somebody will be walking away with thousands of dollars worth of technology products, as well as advice

from expert editors on how to incorporate the new gear into their life as the winner of the first Vacation Gear Makeover Contest, announced CNET.com (www.cnet.com) today, the trusted source of information for millions of personal technology buyers around the world (Nasdaq:CNET).

Beginning today, CNET.com visitors can register at http://makeover.cnet.com to be the lucky winner of travel-friendly tech gadgets such as digital cameras, MP3 players, and portable video recorders. The Vacation Gear makeover is the first in a new developing series of theme-oriented technology makeovers and part of the site's ongoing mission to help consumers have fun with technology and understand how the latest products can best fit into and enhance their lifestyles.

On May 21, the winner will be announced and visited at home by CNET.com's panel of editorial experts. A camera crew will record the winner's transformation into the ultimate digital jet-setter, outfitted with all the latest gear. A complete video of the makeover will be posted on CNET.com on May 28, so that everyone can see the cutting-edge products that the winner will take on his or her summer vacation.

"The makeover series is a great way for CNET.com's editors to share their expertise with all of our users so that they can continually learn how to get the most out of technology," said Candy Meyers, senior vice president of CNET.com. "It's very exciting to think that just weeks from now, the winner is going to take home some of the best technology products on the market that they can instantly incorporate into their life for the ultimate summer vacation."

The panel of editorial experts is made up of five CNET editors, each of whom has knowledge in a specific area of technology. The editors and their areas of expertise include:

-- Brian Cooley, veteran technology journalist and

editor-at-large of CNET.com

-- Joni Blecher, section editor and author of the weekly column,

"Ask the Cell Phone Diva"

-- Eliot Van Buskirk, senior editor and author of the weekly

column "MP3 Insider"

-- Bonnie Cha, associate editor and expert on hardware products

-- Lori Grunin, senior editor and expert on digital cameras and

camcorders

The new makeover series adds to the rich lifestyle-focused content already on CNET.com -- such as CNET Digital Living -- that helps consumers find technology products that fit their way of life. The contest will provide CNET editors with real-life examples of how today's consumers are using technology, helping them develop feature stories that showcase different people and the technology products they use to improve the way they work, play, and live.
